Navy asked for direct purchase of two Amur-class subs from Russia ?

According to a report by Defensenews.com, Indian navy has asked Indian government to clear a proposal to buy Two modern Diesel Amur class submarine from Russia , Emergency purchase has been requested due to Sinking of INS Sindhurakshak and depleting Submarine force . If such a deal goes through , Project 75I under which Indian navy will purchase 6 Diesel Submarine and Russians have offered Amur-class subs might be tilting towards Russian Manufactures .

Interestingly French shipyard DCNS, creators of the Scorpène-class submarine, which are currently been manufactured in Government Docks under project 75, had offered the Indian Navy two Scorpene submarines off the shelf as a quick stop-gap to stem dwindling force levels, compounded after sinking of INS Sindhurakshak tragedy.

Amur class submarine is a modernised version of the Kilo-class submarine with improved acoustic stealth, new combat systems, and an option for air-independent propulsion (AIP). same report also indicated that high-level team from Rosoboronexport was in New Delhi two weeks ago to negotiate for possible sale or lease of two Amur-class subs, with Indian team .

Purchase of two Amur-class submarines, directly from Russia , will be over the planned purchase of 6 diesel submarine under project 75I , Construction of Scorpène-class submarine in Indian docks are currently facing delays , which has lead to sinking of conventional submarine force of the Indian navy .

If the deal goes through , First submarine can be expected to be delivered to India by 2017-18 period , while Indian navy will get hands on two Scorpène-class submarine in the same period , which will ease pressure on Indian navy which plans to retire 4 older German HDW submarines at the same period.
